WAR OF THE FUNDAMENTALS
A NEW WORLD
GENESIS OF ANKOTS
What is not known by the beyond, or by Misteria’s current earthly inhabitants, is that the galaxy of which they are just a speck of dust, was once silent, and the Fundamentals, that formed the lands they spend entire lives exploring, once lived in peace and harmony for epoch amongst each other’s eternal embrace, much like siblings in their infancy. The four Fundamentals of Celatum - Infernox, Acque, Gust and Rockius had always been dormant. Existing in perfect equilibrium, merely contemplating their existence in the greater beyond. This was until they were overcome by a sudden and unshakeable feeling they did not quite understand. A feeling that invoked thoughts of objection and rebuttal amongst themselves and the greater beyond.
One of the few truths about the universe, the reality of which echoes throughout its galaxies, is that peace is never permanent, its fleeting presence is set on a cloaked timer that eventually runs out, restoring it to its natural state of chaos and disorder. Such was the case for Celatum, the peaceful symphony that the four Fundamentals resided in was but an indicator of Celatum’s infancy, for the galaxy was yet to achieve its prophesized state. It all started when Gust, strengthened by the wind and all that it cloaks underneath, was influenced by a powerful and malevolent spirit. In his provoked plight, he posed a question to his siblings that caused a distraction from the state of eternal nothingness they co-inhabited. The question was one of those that did not have an answer, or better yet could not have an answer. It could only have infinite more questions birth out it. And so the fundamental brothers Inferno and Rockius rebelled, questioning the very nature of their existence and the purpose of the universe itself, as Gustius sowed the seeds of doubt within them. Even Acque, sister of the fundamentals and the most clearly-minded of the four, began falling for the paradigm that these questions created.
At first, the fundamentals questioned themselves and their own existence. But the seeds grew steadier, and it was only a matter of time before they started to question one another. And so, on they went, from discussions to debates and arguments. The sibling dispute heightened beyond reconciliation. None of the fundamentals understood how or where this conflict was rooted from, and after a certain point, most did not even care about the nature of the conflict, it was too late. Only Acque, the Water Fundamental, with her clarity still intact managed to shake away her initial trance and understood the sinister forces that orchestrated this malevolent endeavour. But as she tried to bring reason to the mix, her efforts were but in vain, as no matter what she tried, the wrath grew steadily within the celestial core of her siblings, until it was charged just enough to be uncaged.
And just like that, the War of the Fundamentals began. By then, Gust was starting to lose himself under the grips of the malevelont spirit. Inciting the war by provoking Infernos against Rockius, he caused the eldest of the fundamentals to test their strengths against one another. The Fire fundamental unleashed a flaming surge that chipped away at the heart of his brother. Rockius’ core shattered into a million pieces that spread across Celatum with a sound that reached the farthest corners of the universe. Enraged and shaken enough to outstep his study composure, Rockius clenched his legendary warhammer and flung it at Infernox. Dismantling the fiery crown that once lay with pride atop the fire fundamental. As the flames blazed throughout Celatum, the once peaceful universe now looked like a scattered mess of unleashed fury and carnage, much like the aftermath of an exploding star.
At the same time, unbeknownst to the enraged fundamentals, the now fully-possessed Gustius began to channel his wind that was overpowered by the same malevolent forces that controlled him, to drive all the pieces of Rockius’ shattered heart together, forging them into a boulder the size of the sun. He then guided the flames from Infernox’ crown onto the now planet-shaped boulder through his mist. The Wind fundamental’s intentions were to fuse the the two elements together, and use his own elemental wind to contain the fusion in a large concentrated space until it became an orb mighty enough to swallow the entirety of Celatum, perishing all the fundamentals along with it. Acquee, the Water fundamental, foresaw this unfortunate outcome and understood the sinister intentions of her possessed sibling. As soon as her clarity set in, she gathered her attention away from the war of her eldest brothers and onto Gustius, who had by then nearly finished charging his orb of destruction. In an attempt at saving herself, her siblings and all of Celatum, Acquee focused the entirety of her elemental powers in creating a tidal wave of water, launching it towards the Orb that was now nearly ready to implode and knocking Gustius off from his channeling state.
As he snapped out of his fit of madness, Gustius realized the destruction he caused by falling prey to the sinister spirit. The war he had created, the destructive Orb he was powering and the peace he had perished. He could not bear to face his now withering siblings, nor could he continue to exist bearing the burden of his wrongdoings. And so he plunged, towards the mighty Orb of his own creation, made from the fusion of the shattered remnants of Rockius and Infernox , siphoning the spirit that turned him against his siblings to his being - preventing it from breaking free and causing any more havoc. He dove with the speed of a falling star, the fastest site in Celatum and engulfed into the Orb seconds before Acquee’s tidal wave. And as Gustius and the grand spirit reached the Orb, they would have been destroyed by the fiery energy and might of the Orb. But as Acquee’s gush of elemental water began to cool the boulder down, Gustius merely perished, forced to change his elemental structure and forming a thick mist spread throughout the boulder, still channelling his energy. The grand spirit that was unwillingly made part of this self-ending dive, shattered into a million selves, all of which stayed trapped and only able to move within the mist that Gustius had left. Perhaps the mist was his final attempt at repentance, that he formed to curse the spirits with an eternity of being trapped within it, able only to move through it, constantly seeking a way or vessel to escape through the mist.
As Gustius formed the mist that surrounded the boulder, Acquee’s elemental energy cooled it down and turned the Orb, now fusioned with the elemental might of all the four fundamentals into a planet. As she made her final sacrifice, Acquee took a look around at Celatum, her once peaceful home and for the very first time, saw the aftermath of the destruction. Rockius and Infernox, in their unstoppable rage, had truly destroyed one another. With his sturdy heart no longer being the core of his existence, Rockius began to wither away, the strongest pieces of his physical structure now forming, craters and mountains on the planet. And without his eternally burning crown shattered, Infernox’ eternal flame finally extinguished only to be seen on the flames and lava that spewed on the newly formed planet. Even Acquee began to perish, the tidal wave required to cool the Orb of such great proportions was too mighty. It required too much of her elemental powers, until she herself started becoming part of the wave. In the final moments of her former existence, she decided to name the planet that would serve as a reminder of the betrayal that shook Celatum and of her sibling’s former peaceful existence. The planet that was both, the cause and result of the war of the fundamentals. ‘Misteria’ claimed Acquee, the sound of her voice echoing throughout all of Celatum’s galaxies and across its sister universes. A signalling reminder of the eternal truth that all things living in harmony seldom stay that way, chaos is the only true nature of the universe.
